Maria's heart pounded on the bus ride home from school. The convention was only a few days away but the hours crept far too slow for her. For the first time her mother, reluctantly, allowed her to enter the cosplay talent show. Maria jumped for joy when she finally heard her mom say yes. She smiled to herself already knowing who she would dress as and what she would perform. The bus screeched to a halt and opened its old doors, Maria being the first one to run out of it. She slammed the front door, running into her vocaloid covered bedroom. The virtual band being popular in Japan reached all over the world and landed into her heart. She loved the vocaloids, she loved their music, and most of all, she loved Kaito Shion, the blue haired male of the group. She touched the poster of him above her bed. "I'll make you proud Kaito, even if your not real, I'll make you proud!" She slid her hand off and pulled out her costume to try it on again. "Spot on, just need to tweek a few details." She giggled, happily putting it away. Maria then pulled out a piece of paper from the drawer beside her bed and began to recite the song Ashes to Ashes by Kaito. She nailed the chorus then struggled with the end when her mother called her. "Maria it's time for dinner!" Maria growled throwing the paper on the bed, she screamed "Stop interrupting me when I'm REHERSING MY SONG!!!" She stomped out of her room and down the stairs and took her seat at the table. "I'm sorry dear... You know it's important to -" "Shut up." Her mother stayed quiet as she ate her meal. "Dad ever coming home?" "Not yet I'm afraid." She slammed her fork down and went back to her room. Flopping on the bed with her song in hand, she stared at her Kaito poster. "At least your here, you get me." She turned to her bedside table at the bottle of medicine that lay on it. "She doesn't even know my medicine ran out," she giggled, "candy is a good replacement for pills." She giggled more and continued to stare at the poster until she feel asleep. The next school day went by a little quicker then it had been, either way, Maria was happy that another day is gone. When she got to her room, she looked in a mirror and looked at her scruffy light brown waves. She frowned at it and pulled out blue hair dye. "Goodbye shit hair, hello blue majesty." A few hours later she looked into the mirror once again and scowled. "Even with blue hair, it's not nearly good enough for the cosplay." She grabbed a pair of scissors then a handful of her hair and began to chop any stands that didn't match the color of his. Once again her mother called her down for supper and she angrily threw the scissors on the floor. "Oh my goodness what happened to your hair?!" She looked horrified at Maria's uneven, messy strands. "I'm trying to make it PERFECT!" "But hun I already made it clear that you weren't to do this-" "Don't you DARE TAKE THIS FROM ME!!" "GO TO YOUR ROOM RIGHT NOW AND TAKE YOUR MEDICINE!!!" Maria screamed and Ran up the stairs as fast as she could and slammed the door shut and locked it. She looked into the mirror, eyes wide and blood shot. "She's not doing this, not now, I worked too hard for that bitch to take this AWAY!" She stared at her reflection and felt her face, "My face is too fat and round, it will never stand up to the judges, no matter how good the clothes or song...", she turned to the poster then grabbed a marker off the floor and began drawing slanted lines on her face. "Too late to work off the pounds, have to do it the easy way." She waited for her mom to go to bed then, when there clock hit midnight she snuck down stairs. She checked the bookcase in the living room and pulled out a tin filled with sewing needles and thread, then made her way to the kitchen picking up a carving knife then running back upstairs. On her bed was a bowl with two wash cloths in it soaking in rubbing alcohol. With a giggle she said holding up the needle, "Gotta keep quiet." Then proceeded to sew her mouth shut. With pained sounds and cries, she managed the deed. Then she grabbed the carving knife and plugged it in by her mirror and stared at the blade, then turned it on and placed it slowly against the lines drawn on her skin. With a groan, her mother sat up, hearing a noise coming from Maria's bedroom. She got up and knocked on the door, "Hunny? Everything alright in there?" Nothing but muffled noises and singing could be heard. She opened the door and was completely horrified. Chunks Of flesh were on the floor, blood covering the bed and soaking into the carpet. "MARIA!!" her mother screamed. Maria turned around, wearing her costume holding a wash cloth to each side her face, her mouth still sewn shut. Her mom quickly went to the pill bottle and saw no pills but candy. Gasping in horror, her mother turned to see Maria's kaito poster, on the poster, written in blood were the words, "Better then him."
